About us

It’s a sad statistic that every 3 minutes someone in the UK develops dementia and there are up to 10,000 people in Oxfordshire alone who have it and many more who have not yet been officially diagnosed. Daybreak Oxford is one of the few charities that works hands-on to help those with dementia and provides desperately needed respite for families and carers.

We run four dementia day clubs. Through our Cognitive Stimulation Therapies (CST), we aim to help maintain skills and abilities, to provide enjoyment and companionship, and to allow family carers a break from their care-giving responsibilities. Our work seeks to tackle loneliness, ease social isolation and provide a therapeutic environment through a person-centred approach to care. We help families stay together at home longer, delaying or avoiding permanent care.

The Daybreak clubs are Limes in Oxford city, Lilacs in Kidlington, Rosewood in Greater Leys, and Rowan in Littlemore. The therapeutic activities are wide-ranging, including music, singing, art, dance, game-playing and gentle exercise.

For many of our members, attending our clubs is the only time they leave their homes and their only significant social interaction. A hot meal is provided, and minibus transport is arranged to enable attendance.

It is estimated that nearly 400 people in the community benefit from our work on a weekly basis.

We need your help to continue running the clubs and to keep supporting those people in our community who are living with dementia.

Thank you for all your support and good luck everyone!

Yours sincerely
