About us
Oxfordshire Breastfeeding Support has been supporting families to breastfeed since 2006. We provide evidence-based information and friendly, skilled support to families. Just wanting to breastfeed isn’t enough - in fact, knowing that it is important, without having the support to achieve it, increases risk of postnatal depression.
Traditionally, new mothers could rely on their network of family and friends to help them feed their babies and adjust to their new role. Today, new parents in Oxfordshire are often far from their family, have limited experience of new babies and feel alone and unsupported at this vulnerable stage of life. OBS provides both skilled support for feeding and, equally important, a friendly community where new parents can find their feet.
We run four Drop-In sessions each week, in locations around Oxford, offering parents a warm welcome from our trained volunteers and help for more complex feeding challenges from our skilled specialist Facilitators. We also offer monthly antenatal workshops and a busy county-wide Facebook group - currently over 1400 members - where mothers can support each other 24/7, with input from
our volunteers and facilitator team. Our online reach extends far beyond our face-to-face sessions, with families traveling a considerable distance to visit us.
We lost our funding in 2016 when Children’s Centres closed. Since then, we have been relying on voluntary donations and successful trust applications to survive.
We need your help so we can continue to offer and even expand our service!
Thank you for your support and good luck!
Yours
Charlotte Gilman
