About us

Homelessness is a major issue across the UK, but as a result of the economic downturn and increasingly high cost of housing in this area over recent years Oxford has emerged as having one of the highest levels of rough sleepers in the UK.

The Gatehouse runs drop in sessions supporting Oxford's homeless and vulnerably housed community where all services are provided free of charge and there is an open door policy, with no need for our Guests to register or to prove a local connection. This allows us to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable individuals who might not be able to obtain support from any other local organisation.

Our main services are:

  • A drop-in cafe offering a wide varity of food and drinks.
  • Meeting other basic survival needs through the provision of clothes, toiletries, sleeping bags etc.
  • Running activity groups (art, literary, choir) to improve our Guests' skill base, confidence, and ability to interact with others.
  • Offering one to one dedicated support to Guests to help them overcome their personal issues.

Although many of the services are aimed at providing guests in their current homeless position with immediate necessary support, the long term aim is to help them achieve integration into the local community through a transition back into permanent housing and employment.

The Gatehouse is a local charity, and has been providing essential support services to the local homeless community for over 30 years. We depend on community support to raise the majority of our funds. Thank you for purchasing Oxford Lottery tickets, and helping us to continue our good work.
